Sleeper Train Ticket Types

Hard Seat

Three seats on one side of the aisle and two on the other. The seats are upright and non-reclining. The carriages are always packed with seated and standing passengers and belongings. Not recommended for anything other than short journeys.

Hard Sleeper

Six-bed open compartments (three bunkbeds on either side). Perfectly comfortable, and a good option for solo travellers who do not want to be confimed to a locked cabin with strangers.

Soft Sleeper

Four-bed closed compartments (two bunkbeds on either side) with table, a lockable door and electricity outlets.

Deluxe Sleeper

One of the two Guangzhou to Sanya trains benefits from a deluxe sleeper carriage. These cabins have an upper and lower bed, sofa and private bathroom.


How to buy Tickets for the Guangzhou to Sanya Train

Since 2019 China has started to phase out paper tickets and booking online is now easier than ever.

E-Ticket

You can book tickets through Trip.com and you will be emailed your e-ticket immediately. They accept Visa, Mastercard, Paypal, Alipay and WeChat Pay and everything is in English. Trip charge a fee of ¥20 ($3.15) per ticket.


At the Station

You can purchase a ticket for the Guangzhou to Sanya train at any railway station in China. Be aware that queues are usually long and it’s unlikeely that staff will speak English. Ensure you have the train number, day, time and class written down. You will need your passport or valid ID.

At China Railways Ticket Offices

China Railways has ticket offices across cities and towns in China and are recognizable as small booths with thee China Railway logo. As with at the station, it is even less likely to find English speaking staff. Ensure you have the train number, day, time and class written down. You will need your passport or valid ID. Ticket offices charge ¥5 per ticket.

How to get to Guangzhou Railway Station

From Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport

Take the airport express bus Route 1 direct to Guangzhou Railway Station (the stop is called “Aviation Ticket Office and is 160m from the station. Buses from 7am until 20 minutes after the last flight has landed. The journey takes 45 minutes and cossts ¥20.

From downtown Guangzhou

Guangzhou Railway Station is at the intersection of Line 2 (dark blue) and Line 5 (maroon). Tickets prices rane from ¥1 to ¥8 dependin on your starting station.


Facilities on board the Guangzhou to Sanya Train

  • Hot drinking water dispenser at the end of each carriage.
  • Restaurant car with seating and freshly prepared meals.

About the Crosing

When the train reaches Hai’an, the carriages will be shunted onto a waiting ferry. The process including the crossing takes around one hour. During this time passengers must remain on the train.

In the event of an emergency the doors to the train will be opened and passengers should make their way to the muster stations to collect a lifejacket, before exiting the ship.
