The Yanoda Rainforest Cultural Tourism Zone is a small national park 30km northeast of Sanya on Hainan Island.
The park is located within the lush tropical rainforest of Hainan’s interior and includes a vast array of jungle flora and fauna.
There are two main hiking trails; an easy walk along wooden boards, and a slightly more challenging trail that leads up into the jungle and across rocks and boulders.
The site covers 45 square kilometres and also includes attractions such as a zip line, petting zoo, shooting range and daily performances of the Li ethnic minority.
If you’re looking for some serious hiking and wilderness experience, then you won’t find it at Yanoda (try Baoting, Jiangfeng Ridge or Wuzhizou), but if you just want a pleasant and easy walk in the jungle then it’s worth the day trip from Sanya. Perfect if you have kids with you.
Activities at Yanoda Rainforest Cultural Tourism Zone
- Hiking – there are two hiking paths, easy and medium
- Zip Wire – fly across the roof of the rainforest
- Cliff Swing – a swing that goes over the edge of a very large cliff
- Air Soft – there is a dedicated jungle area for airsoft
- Shooting Range – test your aim
- Li and Miao ethnic performances – folk performances from the local tribes
- Petting zoo – say hello to Yanoda’s parrotts and kangaroos
Dream Valley is where most of the activities take place. The area is landscaped with lakes, streams and waterfalls so not original rainforest (see rainforest valley below).
There are two main hiking trails here, a red one (easy) and a yellow one (medium). Kids and the elderly will have no problems following the red path. The yellow is a little more difficult with some scrambling over rocks.
